“Serpent and Dog” was only the second bench design registered by the Coalbrookdale Foundry, in April 1844. This famous design was exported throughout the British Empire and beyond. It features hound head terminals to the arms of the supports, which incorporate a curled serpent entwined with a grapevine, the snakes’ wide-open mouth about to pluck a grape from the vine. The supports stand on elaborate stylized paw feet. This excellent, three-seat copy of the historic “Dog and Serpent” design is in cast iron like the original. Its wooden slats are of oak. It was imported from England in the 1980’s and remains in very good sturdy condition.
